Panforte comes from an ancient Sienese dessert called "panmelato". The original recipe was embellished when the "apothecaries", ancient pharmacists, added precious spices from the East. In 1879 then the pharmacist Galgano Parenti, owner of one of the main houses producing panforte that later joined the Sapori family, created a new version of panforte and dedicated it to Queen Margherita of Savoy, visiting Siena for the Palio of August. Today as then whole sweet almonds, orange peel, melon, candied cedar melt to give life to a unique dough, always spread by hand to ensure all the authenticity of the taste.
INGREDIENTS :
Orange peel, melon and candied cedar 41% (orange peel, melon and cedar, glucose-fructose syrup, sugar, acidifier: citric acid), wheat flour, sugar, almonds 13%, glucose-fructose syrup, powdered sugar 1.5% (sugar, corn starch)starch wafers (potato starch, water), spice mixture 0.3%. May contain soy and other nuts. Store in a cool, dry place.
