Torrone is a typical Italian dessert mainly for Christmas. It is made from egg white, honey and sugar, and is stuffed with toasted almonds, walnuts, peanuts or hazelnuts. It is often covered with two layers of host. Its name derives from the Latin verb torrēre which means to toast with reference to the toasting of the dried fruit that composes it.
