When you open a jar of Chirico Cotto Wheat, you take an emotional journey: a century-old yet modern history that comes to life through the most traditional smells and flavors of Naples.
The cooked wheat embodies the warmth of the family of Luciano Chirico, its creator, and all the families of Naples since 1895 when it was sold in bulk. The housewives could not do without it and, by tradition, they went to the old mill of Luciano and his children to stock up that ingredient genuine, delicious and inevitable for the dessert of the holidays: the Pastiera Napoletana! A unique ingredient that crossed the provincial borders, winning more and more customers with its unique taste.
In 1973, however, the movement of cooked wheat seemed to be coming to a halt because of legislation prohibiting the sale and use of loose products. The concern that the family business might cease fell on the Chirico family just in conjunction with the Easter holidays.
